What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy is a form of therapy that combines art-making with psychotherapy within a therapeutic relationship.

It engages sensory and somatic (body-centered) processes to support psychological well-being, helping to anchor positive experiences neurologically. The intricate interplay between these elements enriches the therapeutic process.

Art therapy is a valuable tool for self-discovery, overcoming challenges that may be hard to express verbally, and building strengths and resilience. It offers a creative way to address emotional, behavioural, and cognitive issues, while also serving as a mindfulness-based practice that promotes stress management, relaxation, and self-care.

This approach involves both art-making and verbal discussion, and no artistic skill is necessary to benefit from it. There’s also no pressure to create art as part of the therapeutic experience.

The therapeutic journey is not about becoming someone new, but uncovering the person you've always been.

My Philosophy of Art Therapy

My philosophy of art therapy is rooted in the belief that creative expression is a powerful tool for healing, self-discovery, and personal transformation. Art therapy allows individuals to access emotions and experiences that are often unconcious and not articulated yet through words. Through the process of art making, clients explore their inner worlds, express themselves freely, and gain new insights into their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. A space for self-exploration and healing that unfolds through the act of creation. I aim to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where individuals can experience emotional exploration.

My approach is client-centered and trauma-informed, respecting the unique experiences of each individual. I view the therapeutic relationship as a collaborative journey, where I support my clients in setting their own goals, discovering their strengths, and developing creative solutions to the challenges they face.

Art therapy as a profound way to connect with oneself, release emotional tension, and build a path towards growth and self-empowerment.
